Why not Tana

Last updated Oct 8, 2022

The main reason I’m reluctant to fully switch to Tana is that I don’t have full access to the application, unlike in Obsidian, and Logseq. It has its own data format, and my notes aren’t stored in Markdown, which I can easily port over to other applications.

I’m afraid that my notes will be behind a paywall. I’ll dedicate enough time to structure my notes and create a database, and later on, if I find out that all that time is wasted because I can’t afford Tana.

There is an option to export data as JSON, but I’ll have to write a full application just to get something out of it. I’m willing to do it, but only if Tana was free. I can’t afford to pay for it at the moment.

I’m thinking about creating an obsidian plugin for that, or moving to Anytype as I really like the workflow that’s possible in Tana.
