Bit is an abbreviation for binary digits, which can be either $0$ or $1$. Bits are used to represent the states of any physical system with two states. It is the smallest unit of classical information Chapter 1 - Classical Information and Computation > ^2d378f. ¹

In classical computing, we use bits, while their counterpart in Quantum Computing is the qubit.
